Blog > Honoring Hispanic Heritage Month
This month, we invite you to join us in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to honor and acknowledge the contributions, achievements, and vibrant cultures of the Hispanic community. In this diverse collection of voices, we’ve had the privilege of hearing from individuals who share a common thread of honoring and celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month in their own unique ways. Today, we are pleased to introduce two Engel & Völkers professionals who have taken the time to share a part of their stories with us.

1. What is your favorite way to honor and/or celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?
My favorite way to honor and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month is by sharing the rich and vibrant culture of Mexico with others. I love organizing cultural events, such as traditional dance performances, art exhibitions, and food festivals. It fills my heart with pride to see people from all backgrounds come together to appreciate our traditions and history.
2. Who would be your dream dinner guest? Why?
My dream dinner guest would be Frida Kahlo. She was an iconic Mexican artist who not only created incredible art but also lived a life full of passion and resilience. I would love to sit down with her, share a meal, and hear her stories of art, love, and life. She’s an inspiration to many, including myself.
3. What is a cultural tradition that is important to you, and what is the significance of its practice?
One cultural tradition that is deeply important to me is Dia de los Muertos or the Day of the Dead. This tradition is a beautiful way to remember and honor our loved ones who have passed away. We create colorful altars adorned with marigold flowers, sugar skulls, and photos of the deceased. It’s a way to celebrate their lives, share stories, and keep their memory alive. It reminds us of the importance of family and the connection between the living and the departed.
4. Could you recommend an initiative, charity, or organization with a meaningful mission that our readers could get involved with?
I would recommend supporting the organization “Mexicanos Unidos“. They work tirelessly to improve the lives of Mexican immigrants in the United States, providing legal assistance, educational resources, and support for families in need. Their mission is close to my heart because it helps our community thrive in a foreign land while preserving our cultural identity.
5. What is one thing that people can do to support the Hispanic community year-round?
To support the Hispanic community year-round, one can start by learning about our history, culture, and contributions. Educate yourself and others about the challenges we face, such as immigration issues and discrimination. Support Hispanic-owned businesses, artists, and creators. Volunteer your time or donate to organizations that work to uplift our community. And, most importantly, be an ally by standing up against injustice and advocating for equal opportunities for all. Together, we can make a positive impact on the lives of Hispanics in the United States and beyond.

1. What is your favorite way to honor and/or celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?
Here in Florida, where my family and I call home, we attend celebrations that honor the cultural diversity of Hispanic heritage. Whether it’s being at the baseball stadium to celebrate Latino players or coming together for Independence Day festivities, like celebrations for Mexico and many Central American countries, we enjoy the traditions that our community has to offer.
2. Who would be your dream dinner guest? Why?
I’d love to be able to chat with my tennis idol, Rafael Nadal, whose global influence is immense, and his extensive charitable work and initiatives are truly inspiring.
3. What is a cultural tradition that is important to you, and what is the significance of its practice?
A cultural tradition in my household has to be the food! My husband and I come from different Latin-American backgrounds, and we absolutely love cooking our favorite dishes. Our kids and friends have grown up with our meals, and they can’t get enough.
4. Could you recommend an initiative, charity, or organization with a meaningful mission that our readers could get involved with?
As I have the E&V franchise for Costa Rica, we’ve connected with a very well-run organization called CEPIA www.cepiacostarica.com and as can be expected, they really need and appreciate any possible help.
5. What is one thing that people can do to support the Hispanic community year-round?
Supporting the Hispanic community starts with accepting we’re all different and respecting those differences. Opening up to that fact creates a sense of belonging for Hispanic communities, which translates into giving, sharing, helping, and committing as part of a big community where everyone lives together.
